Dormition Fast: Paraklesis Service

Tone 4

To the Theotokos, let us run now most fervently,
As sinners and lowly ones,
Let us fall down in repentance,
Crying from the depths of our soul:
Lady, come and help us,
Have compassion upon us;
Hasten now for we are lost
In the host of our errors;
Do not turn your servants away,
For you alone are a hope to us.

On Friday evening I was blessed to serve the Small Paraklesis Service at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church here in Stroudsburg.  The above apolytikion calls us to not only ‘run’, but to ‘run fervently’.  It calls us to ‘fall down’ and to ‘cry from the depths of our soul.’

As faithful Christians and children of the Mother of God, we are able to run, fall down, and cry 70 times a day within the quietness of our heart.  At every blessed moment of the day we quickly remember God, we see our transgressions and we mourn before God.  God is our comforter.

O Most Holy Theotokos, save us!
