This Month At Holy Trinity: December 2003

  • Saint Nicholas Visit
Saint Nicholas paid a special visit to the children of Holy Trinity after Liturgy on Sunday, December 7. Assisted by his able deacons, Saint Nicholas spoke to the children and gave each of them an icon button, a cross-shaped medovnik (honey-cookie), two apples and two oranges. Each child then shared an apple and an orange with one of the adults who did not receive any fruit. This helped the children share in a spirit of Christian giving, so well embodied by Saint Nicholas.

  • Saint Herman Celebration
The repose of Saint Herman of Alaska was joyfully celebrated with Divine Liturgy on Saturday, December 13. Adding to the festivity of the day was the presence of Father Theodore Petrides from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Stroudsburg, who concelebrated the Liturgy with Father Nicholas and gave the sermon. It was wonderful to have both Orthodox priests of Stroudsburg joined together in honor of the first saint of North America. Such occasions of joint worship and celebration will hopefully become more frequent in the future.

  • Father Michael Dahulich Visit
Despite the snow, Father Michael Dahulich, dean of Saint Tikhon's Seminary, paid a visit to Holy Trinity on Sunday, December 14. (Thanks go to his fearless driver, Seminarian Timothy Hojnicki!) Father Michael gave the sermon during the Liturgy and spoke on the Incarnation and the Nativity during fellowship in the Hall. The crowd was small but enthusiastic. It was an enjoyable morning for all involved. We hope to have Father Michael back again very soon!
