Thomas Edison Kessler, age 90 of Plainfield Township, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022 in St. Luke's Hospital, Anderson Campus. Preceding him in death is his loving wife of 59 years, Helen (Morykin) Kessler, who passed away on August 20, 2022.
Born in Washington Township, PA he was the son of the late Earl and Irene (Miller) Kessler. He was a graduate of Bangor High School in 1949. In 1953 he was drafted into service in the Army for the Korean War and was stationed in Germany until 1955. In 1959 he received a Bachelor of Science degree from Lafayette College. He enjoyed a long career as a Geologist for Alpha Portland Cement, Fuller Company and Lehigh Portland Cement. He traveled to Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Central America, South America and the Philippines to source limestone for the cement industry. He was a founding member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Stroudsburg and served as the first president. He remained an active and dedicated leader from its founding on December 5, 1976.
He took pride in maintaining his property as well as dabbling in the culinary arts. He enjoyed preparing gourmet meals and loved to entertain family and friends throughout the year. Tom is survived by 3 sons; Thomas Kessler (Lynn), David Kessler (Kathryn) and Nicholas Kessler (Laura); and grandchildren David Kessler, Tatiana Rutz (Rev Aaron Rutz), Hannah Kessler, Thomas J. Kessler, Matthew Kessler, Aleksander Kessler and Kristoffer Kessler. Tom was also preceded in death by his sister Betty Herd.
Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Wednesday, November 16 from 6-8 pm at Schmidt Funeral Home PC, 202 West St., Wind Gap, with a Panikhida prayer service beginning at 6:30 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, at 9:30 am at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 1501 Trinity Court, Stroudsburg, PA 18360. Tom will be laid to rest in Plainfield Cemetery.
